Marilyn wore this smoldering red velvet gown to accept her Best Young Box Office Personality award in 1951. She also wore it for a sensual publicity portrait.
Commenting on the design, Marilyn told Modern Screen, “I’ve always admired Cassini’s taste and imagination in women’s clothes, and my gown is no exception. It fits snugly down to my knees and then flares out, in the Lillian Russell tradition. It plunges somewhat in the front, but not extremely.”
The gown and the movie star are spectacular.
